On Monday, June 18th a significant new project to use emerging technologies for economic development in Mallow was launched. The Mallow Systems Innovation Centre will create a research and innovation resource that will help to drive positive technological, economic and educational dividends for the town and North Cork.
The Mallow Systems Innovation Centre, the first of its type in the country will see Cork Institute of Technology staffing a new unit in the town to co-ordinate field trials for over €1million of funded research work collaboratively with local companies and educational facilities and to create a critical mass of technology related activity in the North Cork town.
The new centre will formally establish Mallow as a designated field trial site for research projects currently being undertaken at CIT and in time, at other third level institutions. The increase of the number of projects being trialled in the town will create a new dynamic and a connectivity with new technologies not generally within the experience of locations like Mallow. It will increase the opportunities for innovative companies to come to Mallow for both the testing and commercialisation phases of their new products and services.
The Centre is an initiative of the Mallow Development Partnership and is being undertaken in conjunction with Cork Institute of Technology.
It is funded by Cork County Council’s Economic Development Fund and by Mallow Town Council.
